The Beginning of the Poster
In the 15th century, posters were hand painted and hand drawn. It would take time and patience to create even five posters! In 1628, a physician named Tehophraste Renaudot created the first advertising poster, displaying items available for sale.
With the creation of the Lithograph by a Czech named Alois Senefelder, mass production was now a capability. With a lithograph, one adds ink to metal or stone carvings and presses them to paper.
1867 brought us the first poster for a play, depicting an actress in a play. Artistic commercial posters were born. Now we see advertising posters everywhere! The small are seen in store windows and the ultimate of large are displayed on billboards. Either way, they both have the same effect: Your business message to the masses.
