A Guide to "Camera-Ready Art"
On any custom job where you would like to reproduce your logo, you will be asked for "Camera-Ready Art". What Is Camera-Ready Art? Camera-ready artwork is artwork that is ready for whatever method of imprinting that will be used to print your logo onto your box, bag, hanger, etc.
Many bag manufacturers print via a screen, mold, plate or laser template. While "plates" are what we usually use for our custom packaging, "plates" are only cost-effective for up to three colors. Once you get into a full color process, your charges grow and minimums quantities are required.
Digital Printing is a great way to get full color images, but currently are not offered on our bags. We have found that many customers who cannot meet the needs of a 50,000 bag minimum per size, are happy with a digital full color label where they can not only adhere them to our regular line of paper shopping bags, but can also use them anywhere else they may need.
What Camera-Ready Artwork is NOT:
- Photocopies of any type
- A fax
- Business cards or other printed pieces
- Laser-printed copy less than 1000 Dots per Inch (DPI)
- Componenets which need resizing to fit
- Collages
- Smudgy or marked art
- B&W and color photographs
What Camera-Ready Artwork is:
- A high resolution .jpg
- A high resolution .gif
- .eps, .ai files
Each printer requires something different. Which can be unfortunate. The best thing to do is when you have your logo created by a graphic designer, request that your logo be saved for you as .jpg, .gif, .eps, .ai, and .pdf. They may charge you a minor fee to do so, but at least you will have them ready to go. Having improper artwork can greatly slow-down the process and delay your custom items.
If you have an existing logo, it might be worth the investment to have someone with the proper software re-create your logo for you. Please note: If you do not have the proper software, you will not be able to open some of the files and that is ok. We will!
