When Defenders Armory first opened its doors in 2018, the vision was never to become just another gun shop. Built by law enforcement professionals with a passion for firearms, the goal was to create a welcoming environment where customers could find premium products, fair pricing, and a team that genuinely cared about the shooting community.
What started as a small 750 sq. ft. storefront with only $75,000 in inventory quickly evolved into one of Southwestern Pennsylvania’s premier firearms destinations. As customer demand grew, so did the need for a larger, more advanced facility — one that could deliver not only an expanded retail experience, but also the state-of-the-art shooting range customers had been asking for.
After years of planning and development, Defenders Armory opened its newly expanded 14,000 sq. ft. retail store and indoor shooting range, designed to provide an elevated experience for shooters of every skill level.
Building a Retail Space Designed for the Customer Experience
The expanded showroom was carefully designed to balance functionality, organization, and modern aesthetics while supporting Defenders Armory’s extensive inventory of firearms, accessories, and tactical gear.
To help bring the retail space to life, a combination of sleek black fixtures and rustic finishes were used throughout the store, creating a clean and tactical environment that reflects the Defenders Armory brand.
The rustic grey slatwall paired with black shelving and gondola systems gave the space a bold, modern look while maximizing merchandising flexibility throughout the showroom floor. The EXTRA VISION showcases created premium display space for high-end firearms and specialty products, while the shelving and peg hook systems helped organize accessories and tactical gear in a way that keeps the shopping experience easy and efficient for customers.

One of the biggest priorities during the expansion was creating a shooting range that matched the same level of quality and professionalism as the retail space itself.
Listening closely to customer feedback, Defenders Armory knew shooters wanted more than a standard indoor range. They wanted a clean, modern, and comfortable environment that could support everyone from first-time shooters to experienced firearm enthusiasts.
The result is a state-of-the-art indoor range featuring:

- 25-yard shooting distances
- One of Pennsylvania’s only 180-degree shooting experiences
- Advanced ballistic walls and backstop systems
- Premium range ventilation for improved air quality and comfort
To ensure the highest-quality shooting environment possible, Defenders Armory partnered with industry leaders like Range Systems for the shooting lanes, retrievers, ballistic systems, and backstops, as well as Carey Small Arms Range Ventilation to create a cleaner and more enjoyable range experience.
The facility also includes full-size classrooms for firearm education, training courses, and private events — supporting Defenders Armory’s continued commitment to responsible firearm ownership and community education.
